Vicky and Christina are great friends, with diametrically opposing visions of love: the first is a woman's right, engaged to a respectable young man; the second, a creature of instinct, devoid of inhibitions and constantly looking for new sexual experiences and passionate.

When Judy and Mark, both distant relatives of Vicky, offer to host them for the summer in Barcelona, the two friends gladly accept: Vicky to devote the last months of his celibacy in pursuit of a master; Cristina to enjoy a change of scenery and overcome the trauma of her last breakup.

One night at an art gallery, Cristina "flashes" for the painter Juan Antonio, a handsome man in provocative sensuality. His interest redoubles when Judy whispers that Juan Antonio maintains a stormy relationship with his ex-wife, Maria Elena, they almost kill each other.
Later, in the restaurant, Juan Antonio approaches Vicky and Cristina with more direct proposition: fly with him to Oviedo, spend the weekend exploring the beauties of the city, to drink good wine and to the love.
Vicky is horrified; Cristina, delighted, persuades her to try the adventure ...
